Grade One

Eco Strategy

We’ve drawn up this environmental strategy in the summer of 2022 to define our goals and courses of actions in environmental responsibility and its development. The focus of the strategy is ecological sustainability, and it is based on the definition of sustainable development where the environment, people and finances are taken into consideration equally in the company’s decision-making and activities.

Sustainable development has been one of Grade One’s values since the beginning. We’re motivated to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, and with the help of monitoring and measuring, we want to decrease our environmental impact and further develop our activities. This is our way of being a responsible company and participating in making our society and the audiovisual industry more sustainable. We aim to make our environmentally friendliness and sustainability values visible to our employees, clients and collaborators both on a small and large scale on a day-to-day basis.

Since the beginning, we’ve been aiming to optimize our daily activities and make them as energy proficient as possible. And our goal is to continually improve our processes.

We use responsibly produced renewable energy on our premises. We monitor our energy consumption closely to understand it better.

We’ve collaborated with a production company that made a pilot project with ALBERT, an environmental organization aiming to encourage the TV and film production industry to reduce waste and its carbon footprint, in Finland early in 2022. We’ve also made pilot projects at single workstations and servers; this way we can gather information about the energy consumption of different productions in postproduction.

Our premises are located in downtown Helsinki and are easily accessible. We recommend our clients and employees come to our studio using public transportation, walk or ride a bike.

We mainly work at our premises and travel very little for work. For work trips in Finland, we primarily use other means of transportation rather than flying. On the few trips abroad we make by plane, we compensate for the emissions.

When we make purchases for our office, we take into account the life cycle of things and circular economy. We acquire technical equipment with careful consideration, paying attention to how much a certain piece of equipment would be used and its lifespan. When the equipment has reached the end of its lifespan, we recycle it, collaborating with companies specializing in equipment recycling.

We acquire mainly secondhand furniture for our office.

We buy business gifts responsibly.

Since the beginning, we’ve recycled our waste. There are clear recycling instructions at our waste collection point; we want to make recycling easy for our guests and clients.

Since 2022, we’ve only served fish or vegetarian/vegan dishes at our meetings, no meat. We drink Fair Trade Certified coffee at our office.

We’ve created a communication channel dedicated to environmental issues where our staff can share information, instructions and tips on environmental friendliness with each other.

We start briefing new staff members on our environmental policy already during the recruiting phase, introducing our environmental strategy and by utilizing our staff communication channel.

We’ve appointed an environmental officer in our company who is responsible for organizing environmentally friendly activities, taking care of publicity and updating the ecological strategy.

We communicate Grade One’s values and methods to our clients and interests by publishing this strategy on our website.

We continually assess and observe our activities from an ecological perspective. We encourage our staff members to bring up their ideas and suggestions for improvements.
